Why should I compost?
Dr. Nick Smith-Sebasto, Co-Executive Director of the School of Environmental and Life Sciences, Kean University, gives reasons why we should compost instead of sending our biodegradable materials to the landfill.
- The dump trucks that transport the waste emit carbon monoxide
- The rotting garbage in the landfills produce methane
- A lot of space is being wasted in the landfills.
- Nutrients within the biodegradable materials are being wasted if not composted.
- Composting is a natural process that puts nutrients back into the earth.
