In-vessel composting from Refresh Services

Why should I compost?

Dr. Nick Smith-Sebasto, Co-Executive Director of the School of Environmental and Life Sciences, Kean University, gives reasons why we should compost instead of sending our biodegradable materials to the landfill.

  1. The dump trucks that transport the waste emit carbon monoxide
  2. The rotting garbage in the landfills produce methane
  3. A lot of space is being wasted in the landfills.
  4. Nutrients within the biodegradable materials are being wasted if not composted.
  5. Composting is a natural process that puts nutrients back into the earth.
